Man convicted of injuring child and stealing and crashing a squad car

An Eau Claire man has been convicted of injuring a child and police officer, and stealing and crashing a squad car in March.

20-year old Damian Stauffer pleaded guilty in Chippewa County Court to 1 count of intentionally causing harm, battery to an officer, disarming an officer and taking a vehicle without consent. He remains in jail on a $25,000 cash bond.

According to the criminal complaint, Stauffer intentionally broke the arm of a 3-year old child at a home in Eau Claire. When police responded, Stauffer punched an officer through the open driver’s side window. Stauffer then stole the squad car, but ended up crashing it and causing major damage to the car. Stauffer refused to cooperate, and was eventually shot with with a bean bag round and was taken into custody.
