Man convicted of causing crash while driving drunk

A Chippewa Falls area man has been convicted of driving drunk last October and causing a crash.

34-year old Joseph Gannon pleaded no contest to operating with a prohibited alcohol level. He was ordered to spend 5 days in jail and pay over $1,400 in court costs and fines. He also must have ignition interlock for a year, and his license is revoked for a year.

According to the criminal complaint, the crash happened October 26th near the Woodward Avenue intersection in Chippewa Falls. Gannon was traveling north on Highway 124 in the southbound lane of traffic when he struck another vehicle that was headed south, causing significant damage to both vehicles. A child in the other vehicle was hurt.

Gannon admitted to police he had been drinking at a tavern and had entered the wrong lane of traffic. Officers found an empty beer can in his car, and he had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit. Gannon was previously convicted of drunk driving in 2012.
