Man charged with striking a man with his truck

A Wheeler man is facing charges after authorities say he struck a man outside a Wheeler tavern with his pickup truck, and tried 3 times to run over others on July 11th.

29-year old Joseph Tireman was scheduled to make his initial court appearance this week. He is out of jail on a $1,000 signature bond. His charges include recklessly endangering safety and 3rd-offense drunk driving.

According to the criminal complaint, the owner of the tavern reported Tireman had floored the gas of his pickup in the tavern’s parking lot, and aimed toward a group of customers standing in front of the bar near the parking area. Tireman hit one person. The victim reported getting his left shoulder and elbow hurt during the impact. When he fell, his right ankle was run over. After hitting the man, Tireman went to the north side of the tavern, turned around and went back to try to hit more customers. He then left for 10 to 15 minutes, and then returned and drove through the lot again. When he was stopped by authorities, his eyes were bloodshot and glossy, and he smelled of intoxicants. There was an open beer can in the cup holder, and several open beer cans in the back seat of the truck.

Tireman said he didn’t remember anything or how much he had to drink. His blood alcohol level was more than 3 times the legal limit.
