Downtown Eau Claire could be getting closer to having a market district.
That market district could be making its home in a parking lot. A new feasibility study says the parking lot north of the new parking ramp off Galloway and Barstow Streets in Eau Claire could become a market district. The market could possibly include a grocery store, a bakery or deli, and a brew pub. The potential grocery store would be the cornerstone of the market, and Nik Novak with Just Local Foods thinks they can be the store to fill that void.
There are questions about whether the market could make it in downtown Eau Claire. Eau Claire City Council member Kathy Mitchell says she doesn’t know for sure, and they would see what a private developer is interested in doing. The potential plan also includes a winter farmer’s market. The next step is for the redevelopment authority to review any proposals for the project.
